Vegetation Analysis in Mixed Oak Forest of Kakani Area of Shivapuri National Park, Central Nepal

Kakani is located in western part of Shivapuri National Park. The vegetation analysis was carried out in Oak forest of Kakani which lies in Nuwakot district. The present study was made during 2008 in the month of August-September. The sample plots ranged from 2100 m to 2400 m a.s.l. A total of 30 quadrats (10 m X 10 m ) were laid down at each 50 m elevation. Altogether 612 tree individuals belonging to 22 species, 17 genera and 13 families were recorded from a total 0.3 ha area. Cyclobalanopsis glauca was the dominant species among all, and has highest density (486.66), frequency (76.66), basal area (16.28) and Importance Value Index (58.65). Simpson's index was o.1162 and Shannon-Weiner's diversity index 1.085 indicating relatively a low species diversity. Total species richness was 12.4.
