Biodiversity assessment at people’s level in Nepal

Room # 1. Sagarmatha Hall (Main auditorium)

Scientific exploration on the natural history of Nepal and its biodiversity dates back to early 19th Century. It has enriched the academia and nourished seed companies and pharmaceutical undertakings, but has not helped impoverished peasants and local people. Their participation remains indispensable whether we endeavour to conservation or to adaptation under climate change. It is to be argued here that scientific findings and knowledge there in should transcend to people’s level within the framework of their traditional knowledge and livelihood in order to meet upcoming challenges of global warming, climate change and loss of biological diversity.
